Bohinj holidays will meet your every expectation
Bohinj area is one of the Slovenia ˈs most beautiful regions where you can find many natural attractions, from imposing peaks of the Julian Alps to the largest natural lake in Slovenia.
Right in the heart of Europe, Slovenia is a land of lakes, castles and cities, with an attractive mix of folk culture and breath taking scenery. It is a small, very diverse and modern European country, with friendly atmosphere and welcoming people (most of them speak English), wich offers iconic lakes, see side, rolling hills, blue rivers, snow-covered mountains and even forests with bears! Slovenia is smaller than for example Wales, so distances between places are small. Staying there, you can visit various local summer festivals and try some of the tasty regional cuisine. It is a great place for exploring beautiful scenic countrysides, walking, canoeing or rafting. It has a wide range of different accommodations, from charming tourist farmhouses and pensions to luxury hotels. Each of Slovenian resorts is different from the next. You can explore medieval castles on Lake Bled or in Slovenia's capital Ljubljana. You can visit Kranjska Gora to hear the tales of the legendary Zlatorog, admire the peaks and passes of Vogel and Vršič, take a refreshing dip in Lake Bohinj or go underground to the Postojna Caves.
Ljubljana, the capital, is one of Europe’s most attractive cities with beautiful architecture, pleasant atmospheric cafes and restaurants and modern shops. In the summer, the streets and squares are alive with festivals, markets, music and food stalls. The food and wine there is very affordable and high standard, even in simple local restaurants and cafes.
Weather in Slovenia varies considerably depending on area, yet average July temperature remains 27C. Hot sunny days and fresh evenings with occasional shower are regular occurrence in the mountains. In July/August the alpine peaks are covered in snow, which makes the views even more spectacular.
Lake Bohinj holidays
Lake Bohinj is considered to be one of the most beautiful lakes in Slovenia and is certainly the most peaceful. Bohinj is perfectly placed for exploring the Triglav National Park, the only natural park in Slovenia, where you can find high mountains, green forests and mystical deep blue lake.
It is well worth exploring all the little villages too. In Ribčev Laz that lies right on the lake, there is a 15th century St John’s church and the lake’s iconic bridge that can be a great place from which to admire the landscape and make some photos. The gorge entrance to the Savica Waterfall can be reached via footpath and over 500 steps from Ukanc, where you can also take the Mt. Vogel cable car up for views across the lake and the Julian Alps, including Triglav, Slovenia's tallest mountain.
The area offers different activities like lake bathing in the summer, fishing, boat trips, cycling, tennis, minigolf, hiking, climbing, mountaineering and a lot more. There are also many hiking trails with some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Europe. You can start for example with a completing an undemanding 3-hour clockwise stroll around the lake from Ribcev Laz, or explore flower-filled meadows of Mt.Vogel plateau, reached by a quick ascent on cable-car, while enjoying breathtaking views of the lake and valley beneath. You can also take excursions to Julian Alps, where you can enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery and unspoiled, intact natural beauty, or maybe go to the turquoise river Soca, that can be reached by train, boat and coach. Let us not forget about Bohinj ski holidays, a very popular type of family vacations. Bohinj area offers more than 60 kilometres of cross-country ski trails (half in the valley and half at the Pokljuka plateau), various ski areas, holiday accommodations and plenty of other options for spending your winter vacations.
