Bohinj lake offers perfect holiday for all nature lovers
Lake Bohinj is one of the top natural pearls of Slovenia. It lies within Triglav National Park, enclosed by the beautiful Julian Alps. It is the largest permanent natural lake in Slovenia and has approximately 4 km in length and a good km in width. A cold stream from Savica waterfall flows into it on the west side. On the east side, near the stone bridge and John the Baptist's Church is the confluence of Jezernica and Mostnica, which merge in the Sava Bohinjka river.
The lake itself lies at the end of a closed valley, from three sides surrounded by steep wooded hills, and 'guarded' by rocky mounds of Studor and Rudnica on the east. Its crystal clear water warms up during the summer (June - September) and is excellent for bathing, kayaking and wind surfing. The area around the lake draws fans of various sport activities .The lake is surrounded by forests with hidden waterfalls and gorges, yet above them, past the idyllic alpine meadows you can ascend up to fantastic viewpoints and into the limestone embrace of Slovenia's highest summits.
