Slovenia ski resorts are great places for having a ski break
Slovenia is a small central European country, known for its lakes, mountains and ski resorts, offering good snow conditions. Its small but scenic ski areas offer great value and friendly service, as well as a surprising variety of slopes, less than one hour from Ljubljana airport. Due to the relatively short distances, Slovenia gives you the opportunity to ski at more different ski resorts in one holiday.
Kranjska Gora (the Gorenjska region) is situated near the borders with Austria and Italy, very close to the Triglav National Park. The resort is very easily approachable by car since it is located near the international highways. Its slopes are suitable for all level skiers (Kranjska Gora and Gozd Martuljek for beginners, Podkoren for more advanced ones).
Mariborsko Pohorje (the Podravska region) is the biggest Slovenian ski resort and provides a perfect combination of ski slopes and wellness-spa centre. It offers slopes that are appropriate both, for the beginners and more demanding skiers.
Rogla Olympic and Ski Center (the Savinjska region) lies 1571 m above sea. It is perfect for families that like to enjoy winter pleasures of snowboarding and skiing. The centre also offers possibilities of hiking, soccer, squash, mountain biking, horseback riding, swimming, tennis and many other activities.
Krvavec (the Gorenjska region) is a popular resort, not far from Kranj and Ljubljana. The ski centre is located on a peak of the Kalška mountain range and provides a gondola, which brings you to the slopes within 7 minutes. The resort also offers various entertainment and recreation programs.
Cerkno Ski Resort (the Goriška region) lies at the border between the Gorejska and the Primorska regions. The slopes are only 10 km away from the city Cerkno, where you can take the ski bus. The ski area is suitable for all levels of ski practice, from beginners to professionals.
Family skiing holidays
Family skiing holiday is a fantastic opportunity to share some experiences and relax in the crisp mountain air, but choosing the right place can be a bit tricky. Not every accommodation or skiing centre is family friendly, so you should find resort, ski chalet, hotel or an apartment that will suit your familyˈ s needs and expectations. Look for the resorts with organised childcare, child-friendly ski areas, good choice of fun activities off the slopes, excellent tuition and accommodation ideally suited to families.
The Vogel ski centre lies high above the magnificent Lake Bohinj, in the heart of the Triglav National Park. Its beginnings date back in 1964. The renovated cable car with the capacity of 950 persons per hour lifts you to the altitude of 1535 m above sea level, where you can enjoy in an incredible panoramic view of the Triglav mountain range, all the way to the Kamnik Alps.
Thanks to the natural conditions, the ski season on Mount Vogel usually lasts from December to the first days of May. Given its snow reliability, it is Slovenian number one resort. The resortˈ s skiing slopes are not demanding and are excellently prepared. For lovers of cross-country skiing there is also a shorter skating track.
Bohinj ski resort
Being set in the Julian Alps, near the biggest natural lake in Slovenia, gives Bohinj ski resort some extraordinary scenery and a lovely village charm, that will surely convince even the most demanding tourist.
Its main ski areas are Vogel and Kobla, both located in the Triglav National Park. In total we are talking about app. 50km of runs, majority of which are well suited to intermediates and beginners.
If you are learning to snowboard, the resort offers a snowboard school. Most snowboarding is done in Vogel as it has it’s own terrain park, however, Kobla also offers great runs for freeriders.
