Flameless regenerative thermal oxidizer reduces harmful emissions

A flameless regenerative thermal oxidizer is a device that helps mitigate the harmful emissions effects from industry plants into the atmosphere. In doing so, a flameless regenerative thermal oxidizer contributes to respecting environmental standards and norms, thereby complying with the industry standards. What are the key advantages of investing into a flameless regenerative thermal oxidizer?

  1. Emissions mitigation
Through the process of decomposing the VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and other harmful substances, flameless regenerative thermal oxidizers contribute to achieving a level of emissions, which is in line with the internationally agreed environmental standards. Any serious industry player wishing to sell any products on the developed markets should bear that in mind.
  2. Low cost of maintenance and operation
Due to the easy maintenance the flameless regenerative thermal oxidizer is easy to install and keep. This reduces the operating costs, leading to continuous operation and simplified maintaining.
  3. Savings on energy and waste
Due to the possibility of heat recuperation major energy savings can be achieved. Waste is minimal with these delivery rates. Bearing in mind that an efficient device can boast up to 99 per-cent decomposition efficiency and 95 per-cent rate of thermal efficiency, the initial investment will clearly be worth it in the long run.

Most regenerative thermal oxidizer manufacturers have long-standing experience

There are not that many regenerative thermal oxidizer manufacturers in the global market that would have acquired the trust of the major industry actors. The reasons behind this are complex and have to do with the trust that is established between the client and the regenerative thermal oxidizer manufacturers over the years.

What have the established producers identified as key traits of high-quality devices? Read on to get a glimpse into the top standards that are used in this production line!

  • Simplicity in design
Thanks to the simple design these devices are adaptable easily. Therefore, it is possible to extend them as your production rates increase.
  • Versatility.
No device is limited to a single industry branch. This versatility in the use means that industries, as diverse as chemical, pharmaceutical, packaging and the oil industry can all use the same or very similar product.
  • Excellent thermal efficiency leading to energy savings.
A 97-per-cent efficiency rate on thermal efficiency is the norm that manufacturers and clients alike should aim for. The top products reach that level of delivery, meaning that no additional fuel source apart from the VOC is needed, thus leading to very high energy savings for the company as a whole.

The three Tees

Most important aspects of determining the efficiency of any RTO device are the so-called “three tees”: Time, Temperature and Turbulence. Let us briefly explain them.

  • Time: the amount of time spent in combustion chambers. On average, it ranges between a half and a whole second for most systems.
  • Temperature: to decompose VOCs efficiently, any system should operate at the temperature higher than 815 degrees Celsius (1500 degrees Fahrenheit).
  • Turbulence: the chemical reaction that decomposes the VOCs is triggered by these compounds mixing with enough heat and oxygen for the reaction to take place. The reaction can be encouraged by the turbulence, which is facilitated by the design of the device. This is important because the more mixing of polluted air is ensured, the higher the efficiency of the device and the rate of the VOC decomposition.

To sum up: how does a regenerative thermal oxidizer work?

If you are still unsure of how a regenerative thermal oxidizer works, let us present a quick overview of the key points.

  1. The device forces the polluted airstream, full of VOCs, through the system with the help of a system ventilation.
  2. The valves in the device push the airstream through the device by directing it into two exchangers of heat in the form of chambers where media beds are located. There are at least two ceramic media beds, which are used in the heat exchanging function.
  3. The polluted air that passes through the first media chamber, absorbs its heat, after which it is passed into the combustion chamber.
  4. There the polluted air is kept at high temperature for a period of time, during which the process of oxidation occurs and the VOCs are decomposed.
  5. Exit the hot clean air into the second chamber where access heat can be absorbed and reused, and the air is released.
